Brush Fire Films Limbang shoot 2003

On 21 September 2002 a Commemoration of the action at Limbang, North Borneo, in December 1962 was held at the Imperial War Museum, North in Manchester, England.

The Commemoration and was a great success. Over fifty of the original participants in the action were on parade, some with families and grandchildren. It reunited shipmates and friends, many of whom had not met for forty years, and honoured the memory of the brave men who died at Limbang: four members of the Sarawak Constabulary and five Royal Marines.

Guests came from all parts of the United Kingdom, from Australia and the United States of America. Senior Officers of the Armed Forces were present, together with a substantial number of young people from the Sea Cadet Corps

A report and photographs of the Commemoration can be viewed on the Reunion page and Gallery.

Thanks are due to all who attended the Commemoration, to those who helped with the organisation of the event and to those who sent their good wishes.

The aim of this website to facilitate contact between all those members of the armed forces: Army, Navy, Royal Marines and Air Force and Malaysian police and the British diplomatic service, who played a part in the activities which led up to the opening actions in the “Confrontation” - a four year period of undeclared, yet often harsh, warfare with Indonesia.

It is hoped that those who took part in the actions and those who provided the many vital support services will record their memories, anecdotes, jokes and photographs of times past for the benefit of historians and our future generations.

The materials on this website, complemented by significant new research of official military and diplomatic records from the period, are being combined by Brush Fire Films of Dallas, Texas, into a one-hour TV documentary; the first in a series entitled “The Soldier's Tale”.

We would welcome more contributions to the website. If you served in the Far East during Confrontation, please contact us by leaving a message in the Guest Book.

Equally if you know of someone, perhaps a friend or relative, who knows the colour “Jungle Green”, please bring this website to their attention.

We look forward to making new friends and to renewing contact with old shipmates.
